Bakuchiol vs Retinol: An Honest OEM Perspective
Bakuchiol gets pitched as 'plant-based retinol.' From a formulation chair, the picture is more nuanced.
Marketing teams love the "plant-based retinol" framing, but the molecular truth is that bakuchiol and retinol activate different cellular pathways. Bakuchiol shows promise on photoaging without the irritation and pregnancy contraindications, but the literature is thinner.
From an OEM perspective: bakuchiol formulates cleanly into oil-based serums at 0.5–2%, has 18-month stability and pairs well with vitamin C (which retinol does not). Retinol still wins for documented anti-aging efficacy at the cell-turnover end. We manufacture both happily — but be precise in your brand claims, especially for export to regulated markets.
